Wyndham Youth Aboriginal Corporation
Community leadership, cultural connection and opportunities for young people.
Wyndham Youth Aboriginal Corporation — WYAC — is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation established in 2017. Its work centres on children, young people and families in Wyndham, connecting youth development with culture, education, wellbeing and employment.
Service update — October 2026
ABC Kimberley reported on 26 October 2026 that WYAC’s services had paused in September. No reopening date was confirmed in that report.
Contact WYAC directly for current availability, referrals and reopening updates. The programs below describe the organisation’s established work.
Programs and community work
Youth activities and cultural connection
WYAC’s youth engagement programs have included evening, weekend and school-holiday activities, bringing young people together through sport, arts, recreation and cultural learning.
Boys’ and girls’ groups, trips on Country and community events have supported connections between young people, families, Elders and local partners.
Night Space and early intervention
The Wyndham Night Space, which commenced in February 2026, was developed as a community response to concerns about children’s safety. It provided an overnight environment with access to basic needs, referrals and case management.
WYAC’s Night Patrol supported transport home after activities and helped connect young people with the Night Space. Early intervention work has also included counselling and wellbeing support.
Training and employment
WYAC has developed practical pathways into work through:
- “Don’t Rob ’Em, Fix ’Em” mechanic workshop: apprenticeships, traineeships and supported automotive experience.
- Rural Operations Program: land management and rural industry skills, with pathways towards recognised qualifications.
- Gardening and maintenance: local projects combining employment experience with caring for community spaces.
- WYAC Fusion Café: hospitality, customer service and workplace skills.
Contact WYAC about the current status of these programs and enterprises.
Counselling and practical support
WYAC’s service model includes youth counselling, case management, emergency relief and connections to other assistance. Families and referring organisations should contact the team about current access arrangements.
