Jigalong Youth & Cultural Centre supports children, young people and families in Jigalong, a remote Martu community in the Pilbara.

The centre operates through Jigalong Community Inc, the community’s governing organisation, bringing youth activities, family programs and visiting services together locally.

Youth activities and playgroup

The centre runs regular youth activities alongside a playgroup for younger children and families. Its work provides opportunities for young people to participate, build relationships and connect with local staff.

Healthy Ears on Country smoothie program

The centre’s Smoothie Station combines nutritious food with practical learning and youth leadership.

Supported through Ear Science Institute Australia’s Healthy Ears on Country partnership with BHP, the initiative was developed with guidance from a dietitian and child health nurse. Young people have learned to prepare and serve smoothies while developing skills in food handling, teamwork and responsibility.

The program brings together the centre, Ear Science, BHP and Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service.

Culture and community connection

The centre forms part of Jigalong Community Inc’s broader work supporting community life, young people and families.

The organisation’s registered programs include Jigalong NAIDOC Week, celebrating Aboriginal culture and identity, and Jigalong Malpa (Help), which provides basic and emergency assistance.

Visiting services and information

The centre also provides a local venue for visiting organisations and community information activities. These have included First Nations Foundation Financial Wellness Outreach, with an event at the centre in July 2026.

Vehicle fundraiser

A GoFundMe vehicle appeal, organised by Nick Johnston, names Jigalong Youth and Culture Centre as its beneficiary.

The appeal seeks support for replacement four-wheel-drive transport and travel safety equipment. For other transport-related support or contributions of goods, discuss current requirements with the centre.
