Time together
Games, creative activities, conversation and peer support are part of the drop-in experience. Young people can join in and connect with others in their community.
A place for LGBTIQA+ young people to connect, express themselves and be themselves.
Freedom Centre has been supporting young people in Western Australia for more than three decades. This page introduces its work through its own published information, before sharing WAssup’s small contribution: the second speaker donated through the 108 Speakers Program.
Freedom Centre began in 1994 through the WA AIDS Council’s Other Voices program, initially providing a social space for young gay men. Over time it grew into a service welcoming young people of diverse sexualities, genders and sex characteristics.
The centre moved to Leederville in 2022 and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2024. Its history reflects decades of peer support and a community continuing to shape the spaces it needs.

Freedom Centre is a service of WAAC. Its wider work includes youth counselling, community development, workshops, information and support for LGBTIQA+ young people across Western Australia.
Freedom Centre’s free drop-in sessions are for LGBTIQA+ young people aged 12–25. They offer opportunities to meet other young people, talk with peer educators, find information and enjoy time together in a space built around respect.
Games, creative activities, conversation and peer support are part of the drop-in experience. Young people can join in and connect with others in their community.
Freedom Centre offers age-specific sessions and GenderQ sessions for young people who are trans, gender diverse, intersex or questioning their gender.
Online drop-in sessions provide another way for young people around Western Australia to connect with the centre and one another.

Freedom Centre received the second speaker in the WAssup 108 Speakers Program. The JBL PartyBox On-The-Go 2 Plus was purchased on 9 September 2026 and handed over on Monday, 21 September 2026, with two wireless microphones.
The idea is straightforward: give young people another way to enjoy time together and express themselves. That could mean karaoke, singing, spoken word, storytelling, trying the microphone or simply enjoying music with friends.
These are possibilities for the equipment. Freedom Centre and its young people decide how it fits into their own activities.
Child safety and cultural protocols are among the most important parts of the program. Photos and videos are never a requirement. Young people can enjoy the equipment without being photographed, filmed or publicly identified. Freedom Centre’s own safeguarding and consent processes guide any sharing.
Thank you to Freedom Centre for being part of the WAssup journey.
