Programs and community services

Youth activities, sport and culture

DAC runs school holiday activities ranging from arts and crafts to outdoor recreation. Partners have included Fair Game, Funergy and Garnduwa.

The Junior Basketball Tournament brings younger players from across the Dampier Peninsula together. DAC also supports activities that strengthen wellbeing and cultural connection.

Contact the corporation for upcoming programs, age requirements and participation arrangements.

Early childhood and language

DAC delivers early childhood programs in Djarindjin and Beagle Bay.

At Garra Joon Bawa — Saltwater Babies Playgroup, speaking and listening in Bardi and English are woven into children’s learning. Programs operate during school terms; families can contact DAC about current sessions.

Learning and employment — Choosing Your Way

Choosing Your Way helps adults develop language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills through learning plans shaped around their own goals.

Participants have received support towards study, employment, learner’s permits and qualifications, including aviation and maritime pathways. The program also works with employers to connect learning with practical workplace needs.

Financial wellbeing and Money Story

The Goolboo Jawal Financial Wellbeing Hub provides free, confidential financial counselling and advocacy. Support includes budgeting, bills, debt, repayment arrangements and financial hardship.

Through Money Story, women create silk artworks while developing small-business skills such as bookkeeping and taking payments. Sales provide income for artists and help purchase materials for future work.

Elders, families and men’s wellbeing

DAC delivers the Commonwealth Home Support Program in Djarindjin, Beagle Bay and Ardyaloon, supporting older community members through meals, activities and outings.

Its Men’s Shed and supported walking and camping activities create opportunities for men to connect, yarn and strengthen wellbeing.

The Dampier Peninsula Refuge and Safehouse supports women and children escaping violence, serving Djarindjin, Ardyaloon and Beagle Bay. Staff also contribute to women’s health, nutrition and community activities.

Community facilities and everyday services

The Djarindjin Community Resource Centre hosts workshops, training, women’s gatherings and visiting services. It also provides printing and facilities for community activities.

DAC’s municipal team maintains community spaces, manages rubbish and waste services, and supports parks and gardens. Its nursery grows plants and fresh produce as a community social enterprise.
