Programs and activities
Creative activities and recreation
Mayu-Mia’s activities have included mural painting, dance workshops, cooking, discos, movie nights and boys’ and girls’ groups. The Shire has also supported youth participation through Night Hoops and school breakfast activities.
These provide different ways for young people to get involved, whether they enjoy making things, being active, learning practical skills or spending time with friends. Program offerings change throughout the year.
Music, rap and songwriting
Music is one way young people can explore ideas and develop confidence at the hub.
In April 2026, Mayu-Mia hosted free rap and songwriting workshops for participants aged 10 and over. The sessions introduced lyric writing, song creation, beats, rhythm and microphone skills, welcoming beginners as well as young people already interested in music.
Contact the youth team about upcoming music and creative opportunities.
After-school and holiday activities
The Shire’s youth service supports after-school programs, school holiday activities and youth events. Its broader youth work also includes outreach alongside Community Connectors, helping young people connect with school, appropriate services and places where they can receive support.
Mayu-Mia staff also work alongside organisations including Ngala, the Stephen Michael Foundation and Carnarvon PCYC, supporting local sporting and youth activities.
