Broome Youth and Families Hub
Supporting children, young people and families on Yawuru Country.
Broome Youth and Families Hub (BYFH) brings together places to spend time, activities to join and practical support for children, young people and families. It was also the first organisation to say yes to a future speaker through the WAssup 108 Speakers Program.
This page introduces BYFH through its own published information, followed by the story of Speaker #3 and ways to support its wider work directly.

About Broome Youth and Families Hub
BYFH is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation working with children, young people and families in Broome. Since 2014, its work has brought together recreation, learning, family support and help with the challenges young people can face as they grow.
Its services range from early childhood playgroups to youth activities, housing support and assistance for young people leaving care. The organisation’s approach recognises the connections between wellbeing, family, culture, education and community.
On Yawuru Country
Broome is also known as Rubibi. BYFH acknowledges the Yawuru people as the Traditional Owners of the lands and waters in and around the town, and the other Traditional Owner groups across the Kimberley with whom it works.
BME YOUNGNZ
Five young people created BME YOUNGNZ with the support of Broome Youth and Families Hub. The rap music video celebrates their experiences, culture and connection to Broome, and was nominated for Community Clip of the Year at the 2024 National Indigenous Music Awards.
Speaking to ABC Kimberley, BYFH Youth Services Manager Chris McCrory explained that making music gave young people a way to share their feelings and identity with confidence, and an opportunity for their creativity to receive positive recognition.
The project was part of BYFH’s youth work in 2024, before its involvement in the WAssup 108 Speakers Program.

Places to belong and support to move forward
BYFH’s programs offer different ways to get involved, from an afternoon with friends to individual support shaped around a young person or family.
Drop In
A space for children and young people aged 5–17 to enjoy activities such as basketball, fishing, gardening, music and cooking. Activities change through the year, with family support and case workers connected to the centre.
HYPE
Helping Young People Engage connects with children and young people out in the community in the afternoons and evenings. The team helps them get home to family, a carer or another safe adult, and connects them with further support where needed.
Early years and playgroup
Creative play, learning and parenting support for families with children aged 0–4. Activities take place at BYFH and around the community, supporting children’s development and their preparation for school.
Reconnect and Youth Housing
Individual support for young people experiencing homelessness or at risk of it. Young people help shape their own goals around housing, family, culture, education, training and connections in the community.
Home Stretch
Continued support for young people leaving out-of-home care as they move towards adulthood. A transition coach helps with planning, independence and support circles, with other assistance available where eligible.
Children and parenting
Family-led support focused on relationships, confidence, stability and access to services. Families work with a practitioner on their own goals, with advocacy and connections to further help where needed.
BYFH also lists school-holiday activities, Strong Start, Target 120 and Broome Enterprise Academy among its programs. Visit its own channels for current activities, eligibility and referral arrangements.

The first yes. The third speaker.
BYFH was the first organisation to say yes to a future placement through the WAssup 108 Speakers Program. That early encouragement helped give a grassroots idea somewhere to go.
Its work with young people, including Drop In and evening engagement, made it a natural fit: an organisation already creating opportunities for young people to spend time together, enjoy themselves and connect with support.
Speaker #3 has now been delivered to BYFH. The JBL PartyBox On-The-Go 2 Plus, with two wireless microphones, was purchased on 19 October 2026 for $458.02 including $36 delivery directly to Broome.
The kit adds another option for music, karaoke, singing, freestyling, spoken word, storytelling, MCing and community events. BYFH and its young people decide where it fits into their activities.
Young people’s safety and privacy come first
Child safety and cultural protocols guide the program. Photos and videos are never a requirement, and young people can use the equipment without being photographed, filmed or publicly identified. BYFH’s safeguarding, consent and cultural processes guide any sharing.
There is no requirement for BYFH to fundraise to take part. The speaker is equipment for its own programs and community use, cared for and managed locally.
Thank you to BYFH for that first yes, and to everyone whose containers, donations and encouragement helped get Speaker #3 to Broome. WAssup is now fundraising for Speaker #4.
